Yuletide 2025 Letter
Oct. 15th, 2025 08:11 pmHello, author! Thank you for your patience while I constructed this letter.
In all 5 cases, these are fandoms for which the original setting is important to me. However, if you have an incredibly clever sideways shift into a slight AU, I'll entertain it (e.g. it's still the Napoleonic Wars but Sharpe and Harper are in the Navy).
Cadfael Chronicles - Ellis Peters
Particular interests: Cadfael's relationships with his fellow monks, what Cadfael and Hugh get up to when they're not solving murders in Shrewsbury (murder capital of the olden days), reflections on the seasonal and ritual nature of cloistered life, and any bright ideas you have about pre-canon.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011)
My love for this film is basically perfectly described in this five minute comedy clip. I love the 'arranging matches'-ness of it all, where everything is under the surface and nobody can be honest with anyone, including themselves. There is something so claustrophobic and dingy and depressing about the film in the best possible way so please follow your heart into misery and paranoia and whatever else strikes you as in line with the canon vibe.
Slow Horses (TV)
I like when River Cartwright has a bad day and gets an owie :)
Sharpe (TV)
Fascinated by the relationship between Sharpe and Harper and especially by the way Sharpe lurches from crisis to crisis and Harper's like... well... he's an idiot but... nobody else is going to keep him alive. I don't necessarily ship these two in the classic fandom sense but at the same time I am drawn to the liminal spaces in their relationship. Historical era and profession and social class and inclination probably prevents them from ever conceptualising their relationship in any sort of non-platonic way but also LADS WHAT IS GOING ON THERE. Recalling Harper's semi-frequent commentary in canon about how dumb Sharpe is about women and thinking... perceiving... suggesting an avenue for writing...
The Charioteer - Mary Renault
Genuinely no idea what I want - please use this as an excuse to write the thing you've always wanted to write for this fandom, exclusive of my DNWs!
